We are pleased to announce that we have recently received a £1000 grant from Tesco Community Grants (https://tescocommunitygrants.org.uk/). Being awarded this grant allows us to continue hosting our free yoga classes every Saturday and Sunday from 11:30-12:30 which form part of our post-Covid wellbeing project. Although open to all registered charities and not-for-profit organisations, the Tesco Community Grants prioritise projects that provide wellbeing and food and support to young people. With this in mind, the weekly yoga classes are open to people of all ages, old and young, and attendees are even offered a free small takeaway meal at the end of the class. The two teachers we are fortunate enough to welcome each week are really excellent and we are very pleased that we are in a position to be able to continue offering the yoga classes to our local community. The money we have received will primarily help us to cover the expenses of the teachers.
We are acutely aware that the past year has been hard for everyone and in line with this, the demand for mental health services in Scotland has significantly increased. Although we are aware that we can only make a humble contribution to alleviating this issue, we believe that the free yoga classes contribute to enhanced wellbeing. By combining focus on movement, mind, and community, yoga is one amongst a plethora of tools that help individuals to manage and improve their mental health.
We look forward to welcoming members of our local South Lanarkshire community to our free weekly yoga sessions and encourage anyone who knows someone else who might be interested to let them know about the classes.
